Knitting and Crochet Resources

It’s getting to be that time of year again…the time when everything is just a little bit chilly and sitting curled up under a blanket with a mug of hot chocolate and a good book sounds like a slice of heaven.  And what’s even better is when you’ve made that blanket yourself!

Winter is when my yarn comes out to play.  Knitting and crocheting just has no appeal to me in the warmer months, but once there’s a nip in the air I get hats and blankets, scarves and mittens on the brain.
Yarn itself is a huge investment when it comes to knitting or crocheting, but you can spend just as much on pattern books if you have the inclination.  Luckily, just like with sewing, there are lots of resources online if you know where to look!
Ravelry.com is probably the best known online resource, with crazy numbers of patterns and project ideas.  I absolutely advise checking it out.  Know that you will have to create an account to browse though…yet another log in name and password to remember…boo.
Vogue knitting has a huge “stitchionary” of decorative stitches you can use to apply to projects you’re already comfortable with as do several other sites (Knitting Pattern Central and Knitting on the Net for example)
Pinterest, of course, is a wonderful place to find knit and crochet patterns as well, and if nothing else is a life-saver for keeping track of all of them!
Obviously, if you find something you absolutely love, you shouldn’t hesitate to pay for the pattern, but if you’re still getting your feet under you when it comes to knitting or crocheting, it can be less intimidating to start out with a free pattern that you can fool around with without worrying too much.
Let me know if you have any questions, and definitely let me know if you find any other fabulous knit or crochet pattern resources!
